Uncontested Legal Matters

            Drew H. Peterson Law Firm has a schedule of flat fees for certain uncontested legal matters.  An uncontested legal matter means that all individuals who are necessary to the resolution of the particular legal issues are in agreement, or at least that they have agreed to do nothing to defend or contest the resolution sought.   Our flat fees for routine legal matters (not including any applicable court expenses) are as follows:

        *  Uncontested divorce, without a written settlement agreement.        $1,000
        *  Uncontested divorce, including a written settlement agreement.     $1,350
        *  Stipulated agreement and order  to change custody (within an
                existing court case).                                                                            $500
        *  Simple will, including related durable power of attorney, living will,
                 and health care directive.                                                                  $250
        *  Promissory Note                                                                                        $50
        *  Power of Attorney                                                                                      $80
        *  Deed                                                                                                           $50

        (Ask about the possibility of flat fees for other uncontested legal matters.)

Any court expenses are in addition to the flat fee.  This office reserves the right to decline to handle any case it deems overly complicated or otherwise undesirable.  Many simple uncontested cases can be handled on your own and without an attorney.  For more information on that possibility, and instructions on how to do so, see our page on Unbundled Legal Services.  Some apparently uncontested cases may become contested, in which case clients will be converted to our standard hourly rates (generally $250 per hour for attorney time), or else given the opportunity to have us withdraw as their attorneys.
